Judoka who won gold as a half-middleweight at the 2004 Summer Olympics. He was 17 years old at the time, making him the youngest Olympic male champion ever.
He grew up in Northern Greece and began competing internationally at age 15.
He was Greece’s flag bearer at the 2008 Summer Olympics.
He is the cousin of Georgian judoka Zurab Zviadauri, who also won gold at the 2004 Olympics.
He defeated Russia’s Dmitri Nossov at the 2004 Olympics.
