AJ was born March 19, 1987 in Union City, New Jersey. Her real name is April Jeanette Mendez and she has Puerto Rican ancestry. She decided at early age of 12, that she wants to be a professional female wrestler one day. She wrestled for the first time with ring name Miss April on September 29, 2007. In 2008, she started to perform on Women Superstars Uncensored. After that, A J Lee moved to World Wrestling Entertainment.
